Ways to Give

Ways to Give

As a private, not-for-profit organization, the Mississippi Museum of Art is supported by generous people like you. Your contributions help fund vital education programming, the preservation of our collections, high-quality exhibitions, and so much more.

Donations

All donations to the Museum are fully tax deductible. You can also sign up for the recurring gift program to make secure automatic donations from your banking account or by charging your credit card. It’s a great way to make a significant gift with smaller installments.

Annual Fund

Support from the community, in the form of donations large and small, makes possible all the work we do to live into our mission of engaging Mississippians in the visual arts. Your contribution helps to make the Museum more accessible to all.

Tribute or Memorial

Honor someone special with a tribute gift to the Museum. Memorialize a loved one and express your sympathy with a donation. The Museum will notify the designee of your special recognition.

For more information, please contact Leslie Kennedy at 601.960.1515.

Matching Gifts

If your company offers a matching charitable gift program, you can double the impact of your donation to the Museum. Just send the matching gift paperwork from your employer with your contribution. For more information, please contact Leslie Kennedy at 601.960.1515.

Endowment

A gift to the endowment is one of the most lasting contributions you can make to the Museum. For further information, or if you are interested in making a gift to the Museum’s endowed support fund, please contact Jana Brady, Chief Advancement Officer, at jbrady@msmuseumart.org.

Planned Giving

The Mississippi Museum of Art is grateful for the generosity and foresight of individuals who choose to include the Museum in their estate plans. By making a charitable gift to MMA in your will, trust, or by beneficiary designation, you will establish yourself, in perpetuity, as a valued member of the Legacy Society, leaving a lasting impact on the cultural vibrancy of our community and our state. Your planned gift ensures access to the Museum’s ever-growing permanent collection, world-class exhibitions, and educational programs for visitors of all ages and backgrounds.

We recommend that you consult with your legal and financial advisors to ensure that your wishes are accurately reflected in your estate plans. If you have already included the Mississippi Museum of Art in your estate plans, please let us know so that we can express our gratitude and ensure that your specific intentions are honored.

Qualified Charitable Distribution

Did you know that anyone age 70 ½ or above may transfer up to $100,000 each year directly from an IRA (an Individual Retirement Account) to a 501(c)3 charitable organization, like the Mississippi Museum of Art, without having to report the distributed amount as taxable income?

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA custodian, payable to a qualified charity. QCDs can be counted toward satisfying your required minimum distributions for the year, as long as certain rules are met. In addition to the benefits of supporting the Museum, a QCD excludes the amount donated from taxable income, which is unlike regular withdrawals from an IRA. Keeping your taxable income lower may reduce the impact to certain tax credits and deductions, including Social Security and Medicare.

To qualify, the distribution must come directly from the IRA provider to the Museum and the Museum may not provide any goods or services in exchange. Contact your IRA custodian and request a direct transfer to the Museum – tax ID (EIN) number is 64-6025771 – mailed to the address below.

Mississippi Museum of Art
Attn: Development
380 S Lamar St.
Jackson, MS 39201

Do not withdraw the funds and make a contribution yourself, or you will have to report the withdrawal as taxable income. If you are requesting the transfer at the end of the tax year, allow enough time for the transfer to be completed and mailed by December 31.

Gifts of Art

The Mississippi Museum of Art began as the Mississippi Art Association, established in 1911 with a small collection of paintings, and it is only through the generosity of the art-collecting community that the Museum has continued to build the outstanding collection it has today.
