Mississippi Museum of Art hosts student art exhibition

The Scholastic Art Awards of 2016 Mississippi Regional Competition

On view February 6 – March 6, 2016

(Jackson, Miss…) The Mississippi Museum of Art (the Museum) is pleased to recognize winning students from The Scholastic Art Awards of 2016 Mississippi Regional Competition. Award winners will be displayed as part of the Scholastic Art Awards exhibition, on view February 6 through March 6, 2016 at the Museum in The Donna and Jim Barksdale Galleries for Changing Exhibitions. Awarded artists will be recognized during a reception and ceremony on Sunday, March 13 (1 PM college fair; 2 PM ceremony).

Out of more than 1,800 visual art submissions from across the state, 289 selected works of art received Honorable Mention, 121 works received Silver Key, and 160 works received Gold Key. Entries receiving Gold Key awards will be sent to New York City where they will contend in the national competition among 80 other regions.

Creativity Kitchen: Chef Inspired Cuisine for Healthy Scholars

Partnership led by Chef Nick Wallace brings culinary arts, nutrition, into local schools

(Jackson, Miss…) Jackson Public Schools, the Mississippi Museum of Art, and the Museum’s Executive Chef and Culinary Curator Nick Wallace announce Creativity Kitchen, an initiative designed to spark excitement and education about eating and preparing healthy food in middle school cafeterias. The program will be piloted in two Jackson Middle Schools, Blackburn Laboratory Middle School and Powell Middle School, before rolling out in a wider launch to more middle schools around the city.

The purpose of Creativity Kitchen is to connect culinary arts, nutrition education, and creativity to engage students, staff, families, and the community to foster the desire in students to eat well, eat fresh, and enjoy the process of preparing healthy meals. The Art in Us All Community Exhibition Series was created in order to deepen the relationship between the Museum and its visitors and to cultivate creativity in the community for people of all ages and backgrounds.
