Core Sample Symbols Roll In

Core Sample update:

Already, Mississippians of all ages have been sending in and dropping off the symbols that represent what the state means to them. These symbols will be engraved into clay bells, 2200 in all, that will hang in unison for the final installation next Spring of Core Sample, a work of Significant Development, LLC. You can email or mail in your symbols, drop them off at the Museum, or even, as happened in one instance, hand them to Significant Development Chief Aesthetics Officer daniel johnson if you see him in line at the Home Depot.

Your help is also welcome and needed to make the bell assembly workshop run smoothly, so stop by anytime to check out the progress of the project in the Entergy Classroom just off the public corridor of the Museum and come Thursdays 10 AM - 2 PM and Saturdays 1- 5 PM to get your hands dirty.

Ribbon Cutting of 2014 C3 Participatory Art Project

On December 9 at 6 PM, Significant Developments introduced Core Sample and kicked off the project with the grand opening of the bell assembly workshop. The bell assembly workshop will operate Thursdays from 10 AM-2 PM, Saturdays from 1-5 PM, and during special events through the end of the project in March. The bell assembly workshop will involve the public in the hand-built ceramic process, creating bells for the survey. People are invited to inscribe on these bells the symbols they associate with themselves and their communities, including the state-wide Mississippi community.

Participants in the survey are able to create their own bell on which to impress their symbols or use an already finished bell and attach their symbols. Symbols can also be mailed to the museum or emailed to symbols@significantdevelopments.us. Click here for more information about how to submit your symbol.

The public installation of the survey results will be completed during the week of Spring Break 2014, March 10-14. Roughly 2,200 bells will be installed in The Art Garden, hung in a form which will surround...
